AIDS; Foreboding of the Western Civilization Collapse [1]

I seek refuge with Allah, the All-hearing, the All-knowing, against Satan, the accursed.

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful

On the first of January, the world celebrates the International Day of AIDS. Similarly, other days of the year have been dedicated to celebrating other human issues, such as woman, labor, al-Quds (Jerusalem). As a matter of fact, it is a positive condition in the life of the nations to celebrate such occasions, because they do require dedicating one day, at least, in the year so that scholars, intellectual, experts, and people in charge of these issues may appraise them through diagnosing the problem, analyzing the causes, betokening the methods and mechanisms of treatment, and making the investigations, statistics, and studies of all the stages involved.

The AIDS is one of the major problems from which humankind suffer and due to which people are encountering misery, depression, and evanescence. Today, there are more than 30 million casualties of this disease, which destroys the lives of about 8-10 thousand individuals a day; that is more than 3 million individuals a year. Accordingly, it lies on the top of the list of death causes hence preceding the numbers of casualties of wars, famines, and car and plane accidents, as well as other causes.

The advanced, in addition to the other, countries have failed to take any action in facing this disease; they therefore had to confess their failure to annihilate it rather than to check it. The most afflicted peoples by this disease are those living in the middle and south of Africa and the least afflicted are the Muslims whose countries have been, to a recent time, rarely empty of any affliction until news have had it that 588 individuals, in Saudi Arabia, passed away as casualties of AIDS. [2] Before that, the Iraqi Health Ministry could seize a shipment of injections that are used by pregnant women whose blood groups are not corresponding to their husbands’ blood groups, and that shipment was polluted with the AIDS virus.

In truth, these news are ringing tocsins before the Muslims and paying their attentions to one of the forms of the aggressive attacks that the arrogant Western regime is practicing against them (i.e. the Muslims). The message that must be understood from this attack is that the West regime has not spared any effort in hatching incessant plots aimed at eradicating and weakening the Muslims and devastating their doctrines and principles through diffusing means of moral collapse, corruption, debauchery, and libertinism so as to enslave them and then take hold of their fortunes.

On this day, we have to hint at a number of lessons and examples that are figured out from the afflictions of humanity because of AIDS, the lethal disease:

(1) In spite of its excellence in sciences, technology, and medicine that invented a “holy halo” around it, the Western regime is still falling short of combating a tiny virus that cannot be seen by ordinary eyes. Not only is the West failing to annihilate it but also it cannot stop this virus that, like a giant, is destroying the omnipotence and tyranny of the Western regime and, at the same time, acting as an existing proof on the veracity of Almighty Allah’s saying (in the Holy Quran), “The parable of those who take protectors other than Allah is that of the spider who builds to itself a house; but truly the flimsiest of houses is the spider's house;- if they but knew, 29/41” as well as His saying, “O men! Here is a parable set forth! Listen to it! Those on whom, besides Allah, you call cannot create even a fly, if they all met together for the purpose! And if the fly should snatch away anything from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. Feeble are those who petition and those whom they petition. 22/73”

In view of that, the faithful Muslims must not be lured by the West, must not betake them as examples, and must not melt themselves in their fallacious culture.

(2) The Divine examples will undoubtedly be imposed upon these peoples who have, arrogantly, swerved from the straight Divine Path and thus defied the law of Almighty Allah; they therefore will unavoidably be exposed to the punishments, which were undergone by the past nations. These peoples have passed by two stages: [3]

First: The stage of encountering sufferings and adversities “so that they might learn humility” and return to Almighty Allah. They did pass by many tribulations and disasters one of which was the World War II which suppressed the lives of 41 million individuals from the Allies excluding the casualties of the other party—the Axis Powers.

If tribulations do not serve in seeking Almighty Allah’s forgiveness and repentance, the second stage—stage of gradual overtaking, exorbitant bestowal of graces and boons, and flooding with luxury, amusement, and pleasures that result in negligence of the Creator and in hardheartedness—will be applied. Describing the state that occurs to the sinning people due to such gradual overtaking and the other steps, Almighty Allah says (in the Holy Quran), “…until they grew affluent (7:95).” This expression exactly corresponds to the very state that the Western countries experienced during the last few decades, as they lived in luxury, opulence, and lavishness. They, moreover, showed masterfulness in inventing pleasures, entertainments, and means of amusement; they held competitions, festivals, and clamorous carnivals in order to encourage these corrupt activities. Before they were weary of a certain means of entertainment, they would invent another. Their pockets and stomachs were so full of the treasures of the earth that they began to set fire to the fruits and threw meat in the seas in order to keep their prices fixed. By then, the third stage of overtaking, termination, and destroying will come upon them. As a sing, AIDS is one of the forebodings of their annihilation.

On many occasions, the Holy Quran has mentioned these stages and the examples of the past nations. For instance, the Holy Quran reads, “And We sent no prophet unto any township but We did afflict its folk with tribulation and adversity that haply they might grow humble. Then changed We the evil plight for good till they grew affluent and said, ‘Tribulation and distress did touch our fathers.’ Then We seized them unawares, when they perceived not. 7/94-95”

(3) The Western regime has very frequently declaimed protection of human rights and spread human organizations all over the world while, at the same time, it has turned its face away from providing appropriate support for encountering this disease through waging a worldwide war against it in order to eradicate it. In this respect, the General Secretary of the United Nations has openly confessed that the government of the United States, as well as the other Western governments, rid themselves of their pledge to financing this human scheme and to participating in decreasing the pains of the infected by AIDS although these governments spent many times as much as this sum in financing their campaigns against the so-called terrorism whose victims have not been a tithe of the victims of AIDS. As a result, the Westerns do not actually care for the human principles or for solving the problems and removing the sufferings of the peoples; rather they are directed by material profit and loss.

(4) The sayings of the Holy Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) have been proven as accurate concerning the international dilemma of adultery. It is well-known that the chief cause of the AIDS is the illegal sexual practices. In this regard, the Holy Imam (a.s) are reported to have said,

“An adulterer will be befallen by six misfortunes—three in the worldly life and three in the Hereafter. The three misfortunes that befall an adulterer in the worldly life are (1) vanishing of face brightness (i.e. paleness), (2) poverty, and (3) quick death. The three misfortunes that befall an adulterer in the Hereafter are (1) wrath of the Lord, (2) woeful reckoning, and (3) immortality in Hellfire.”

By applying these misfortunes to the results and symptoms of the AIDS, the result will be accurately compatible.

As for vanishing of face brightness, it can be employed from several aspects as follows: [4]

(A) The infected by AIDS are usually pale; and on account of deficiency of the immune system, they can easily be the target of all diseases making their bodies ailed and laid up.

(B) One of the requirements of protection from AIDS, the infected by this disease must be socially isolated. Of course, this act makes the infected person depressed, pale, humiliated, and agonized, because association is one of the natural peculiarities of human beings. On this account, solitary confinement has been one of the cruelest means of torture.

(C) Extortionate costs of treatment of AIDS exhaust and consume any fortune that is owned by the infected persons. Besides, isolation and prevention from doing any job naturally cause the infected persons to be humble, begging the others’ help and sympathy.

(D) Generally, those who keep themselves away from the obedience to Almighty Allah are coming upon spiritual bareness. Like bodies, spirits requires food. Hence, shortage of soul food brings about mental feeling of defeat and inner rupture to which Almighty Allah has referred by saying (in the Holy Quran), “But he who turns away from remembrance of Me, his will be a narrow life. (20/124)”

As for poverty, it can be conceived from many aspects, as follows:

(A) AIDS customarily infect the class of the youth who are aged between 15 and 40. Youths are the class that builds the country and enrich the community with creation and production. As this disease deprives them of any opportunity of work, they become poor and break down their nations’ activities.

(B) The expensive costs of this disease treatment consume all financial powers. Being too expensive, the prescription of this disease treatment requires daily, regular practice that my take many years. Of course, if all these costs are multiplied by the number of the infected by AIDS, the result will be horrifying!

(C) Not only do entrepreneurs and rich people refrain from investing their capitals in the infected areas but they also escape such places.

These points act as socio-analytical concepts of the traditions (reported from the Holy Imams) that confirmed that disobedient nations are deprived of rainfalls (i.e. bestowals of the sky) and fortunes of the earth. They can also act as nice example confirming Almighty Allah’s saying (in the Holy Quran), “Allah sets forth a parable: a city enjoying security and quiet, abundantly supplied with sustenance from every place. Yet was it ungrateful for the favors of Allah; so, Allah made it taste of hunger and terror in extremes, closing in on it, like a garment, from every side, because of the evil, which its people wrought. 16/112”

As for quick death, it can be conceived from many aspects, as follows:

(A) The inescapable result of the infected by AIDS is death in a period ranging between several month and several years.

(B) AIDS usually infect people whose ages range between 15 and 40, which is the natural age of natural procreation. In view of that, the death of people in these ages means that the nations will be deprived of them and of the number of children that they are expected to breed. If it continues, such reduction will bring about extinction. To this fact, Almighty Allah has referred in the Holy Quran. Recounting the story of the people of Prophet Lot, Almighty Allah says, “They said: ‘Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered.’ And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those sinners should be cut off by the morning. 15/63-66”

This example is not peculiar that it appertained to the people of Prophet Lot exclusively; rather it is an all-inclusive state under which all nations that turn away from the Divine Law enter. “And it is never far from the wrongdoers. (11/83)”

(C) The infected by AIDS live in a state of malice against and envy of the others. They also suffer the complex of worthlessness, especially when they recall their inevitable end; hence, they rush to pour revenge from the others.

Such social survey of the sayings of the Holy Infallibes (a.s) puts on view their magnificence, their true belongingness to the Creator, and contributes, to a great extent, in driving those belonging to other schools of thought to join and refer to them. This is in fact the most suitable method in the current cultural discourse.

(5) It is probable that there is a connection between the failure of the Western regime in combating this lethal disease and the blessed Advent of Imam al-Mahdi the Awaited—peace be upon him. Narrations have confirmed that Prophet Jesus the Messiah—peace be upon him—shall return to this world in support of Imam al-Mahdi. As the major Miracle of Prophet Jesus was healing the diseased people, especially those infected by incurable diseases, his healing the infected by, and even the victims of, AIDS will be an irrefutable argument against his adherents so that they may believe him and follow his blessed mission.

This is only a thesis to be discussed, for the vast mercy that Imam al-Mahdi—peace be upon him—will bring for all human beings, be them his followers or not, will not allow that people live in torment or experience misery; rather he will intrude to save them. But what can he do for people who choose misery? Almighty Allah says, “Can you rescue him who is in the Fire? (39/19)”

In conclusion, if they really long to live in happiness, peace, and tranquility, human beings are required to direct to Almighty Allah and to commit to His Laws. Supporting this, Almighty Allah says (in the Holy Quran), “And if the people of the townships had believed and kept from evil, surely We should have opened for them blessings from the sky and from the earth. But (unto every messenger) they gave the lie, and so We seized them on account of what they used to earn. 7/96”

Immediately after that, Almighty Allah blames and warns: “Are the people of the townships then secure from the coming of Our wrath upon them as a night-raid while they sleep? Or are the people of the townships then secure from the coming of Our wrath upon them in the daytime while they play? Are they then secure from Allah's scheme? None deems himself secure from Allah's scheme save folk that perish. 7/97-99”

Just like the other verses of the Holy Quran, it is worth mentioning that the series of these verses that begins with verse number 93 in Surah (Chapter) of al-A’raaf are worth ponderation and deep consideration that results in getting rid of one’s inattentiveness; therefore, do not miss this opportunity.

Finally, I pray Almighty Allah to awaken us from the sleep of the inattentive ones, to guide us to the Straight Path, and to include us with those who abide by His Firm Rope. All praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Blessings of Allah be upon Muhammad and his Household, the Immaculate, the Infallible.
